Effective Communication Strategies for People with Dementia - Canceled
Name: Effective Communication Strategies for People with Dementia - CanceledDate: March 19, 2020Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDTEvent Description:**Please note this event has been canceled**
As people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. Also at this FREE program you’ll get the first look at Superior Public Library’s new collection of memory kits! A memory kit is a box or bag filled with items and activities centered around a place, time, or theme. Memory loss and confusion are the hallmarks of dementia and Alzheimer’s, but photographs, music, and memorabilia from the past can trigger memories and provide a bridge for caregivers and loved ones to communicate and connect. We’ll unveil the memory kits, offer tips for using them with your loved ones, and explain how you can check them out from the library.
If any accommodations are needed, please contact Leslie Mehle at (715) 394- 860. Requests should be made as soon as possible but at least 10 business days prior to the event.
